Manhattan- For its 4th edition, the NY Brazilian Film Series will feature the NY Premiere of Grande Otelo Award-winning documentary “Milton Bituca Nascimento” on Sunday, November 2nd at Cinema Village in Manhattan.

A multi-cultural Brazilian celebration through the arts, film, music, dance, literature, fashion and gastronomy, its founder Roger Costa says, “this time we’ll be celebrating one of our greatest treasures alive, engaging the audience in an immersive and joyous experience”.

The film directed by Flavia Moraes follows the influential singer/composer during his final tour in New York and Belo Horizonte, while venturing through his memories and gathering testimonies from his collaborators and friends.

To open the event at 5pm, renowned Brazilian jazz singer Ana Fernandez and her trio will perform a tribute to Bituca, followed by emerging mix media artist and writer Madu Moreira’s intimate art show. She’s preparing a piece influenced by the event’s theme which is “Memories and the Influence of Brazilian Culture around the world”.

A small reception with Brazilian drinks and pastries will greet participants right before the film’s screening as author Cesar de Souza will launch his spiritual-fueled book “Alem do Alem”, which investigates the impact of death and supernatural forces in our lives.

In partnership with some local concert houses, tickets for prestigious jazz concerts will be given away to ticket holders during a raffle- totally free. Tickets for upcoming shows at Lincoln Center, Miller Theatre and NJPAC among other prizes.

To wrap up the evening, BATALA NY, the female-led percussion group returns to the stage for a vibrant, Bahia-style live music performance certain to make everyone dance.

The NY Brazilian Film Series was created to educate, preserve and promote Brazilian culture in NYC as well as to support local talented artists. NYBFS has previously screened “Kobra-Self Portrait”, “Belchior-Just A Wild Heart” and “Luiz Melodia-Within the Heart of Brazil”.
